The Green Mask (1939-1942) The first Green Mask first appeared in Fox's Mystery Man Comics #1 (August 1939). The writer was not credited (although it may have been Will Eisner); the artwork was by Walter Frehm. This Green Mask's final appearance was in Mystery Man Comics #31 (February 1942). The Green Mask was secretly private detective Michael Shelby (or Selby, in some early issues). He gained superpowers after being exposed to a mysterious "vita-ray." In Green Mask #1 (1940), the Green Mask was joined by a young sidekick, Domino. Powers and abilities The Green Mask originally had no superpowers. He later gained a number of superpowers after being exposed to vita-rays, including super strength, invulnerability, and flight. He would occasionally display other powers, usually as required by the plot. In addition to super powers, the Green Mask carried a gun. Here is a picture: [link] |
